Two Worlds Collide-Matt Mulka

What an interesting story I have just read. Matt Mulka in a very ilustrative way has given an excellent manner of understanding the problems of misscommunication between people. The story is about the coexistence problems that a white teacher had with a black man that worked in the farm. Both, living their own separated life dind't afford the problem of misscommunication between them in the little times they really talked.

At first, we can notice the big differences between them. the white man's only preocupation were having a good cup of coffee, watching the dusk and do some work in the commodity of his house or his hammock. Meanwhile, the black man, had difficulties in his life for profiting important things such as water and food. In this sense he worked with a servile attitude towards de white man, watching work as the only possibilitie for having something to eat later.   So we see the uncomprenhensive, selfish and arrogant white towards the good working and servile man.

So this two characters I have just described didn't afford being together because of their differences, but of the lack of a proper communication to express the feeling they had. some examples for this are when the white man got annoyed because the black man was cleaning the patio, and because of that he got desconcentrated. Instead of telling him to stop in a gently way and expressing the reasons, he treated him in a negative way. Another one is influenced by stereotypes or inferences that the white man did before listening attentively the black man. When he realized that definitaly the black man asked for money, thought what almost all people that consider themselves superior think " He only wants money" My question is, Who doesn't? when rich men want money that is a good thing- in spite is often because of ambitious purposes-, but when poor people ask for it, it sounds as if they were begging for what they deserve for living, eating etc. The white man didn't saw that what the black man requeired was something to eat.

The bigger sin of both men was considering that the other could interpret their emotions, and understand what was bodering them. They stayed with their mouth shut, their bodies moving, and their thoughts concerned.  The one who listens has the right words to express things.
